How You Can Help

Raiser with Lab in front of museum
Volunteers and sponsors are essential to fulfilling the mission and commitment of Guiding Eyes for the Blind (GEB), which is to promote the dignity, security, and independence of those without sight.  You can help realize the GEB program by becoming a puppy raiser or puppy sitter and by donating financial, material, and service resources.  Guiding Eyes is supported entirely by contributions and receives no government subsidies.

For information about volunteer opportunities and donations to the Shenandoah Region, link to the Shenandoah Region Contacts page

For information about volunteer opportunities in a GEB Region near you, contact the GEB Office of Volunteer Services at (914) 243-2228 or see National Contacts -- Program Information on the Shenandoah Region Contacts page

The most critical volunteers of the GEB program are the puppy raisers.  The devoted puppy raisers invest their time and love to ensure that each future guide dog will grow up in a safe and stimulating environment surrounded by caring people.  For more information, link to the Puppy Raising page or go to the

Puppy sitters are an important extension of the puppy raising  family.  A puppy sitter is an individual or family that cares for a puppy or dog on a short-term basis.  Puppy sitters provide new socialization experiences for the pup/dog and ensure a continuum of training and social expectations.  Puppy sitters participate in Shenandoah Region classes and are provided the same support as full time raisers.  For more information, link to: Puppy Raising page

Each GEB Region faces a variety of operational expenses such as purchasing kennels and training supplies and reproducing training materials.  Assistance from business in the form of discount purchases and donations of supplies and services will provide critical resources. Individuals, organizations, and businesses can sponsor a puppy to help defray the cost of food and equipment for the duration of time the pup/dog lives with a puppy raiser. Donations and assistance are very much needed and appreciated.

The national Guiding Eyes for the Blind (GEB) program is supported entirely by contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations and receives no government subsidies.  GEB Regional programs are supported by local fund-raising activities.  If you do not have the time to volunteer but still want to help, consider a monetary contribution.  Support of Regional and National fund-raising activities will provide you rewarding experiences.  Direct monetary donations at the Regional and National level are much appreciated, and whatever amount donated will greatly benefit this program.
