What to do in case of
ILLNESS and INJURY

Minor Non-Life Threatening Problems:
  • Ear Infections
  • Minor skin rashes
  • Dry skin
  • Hair loss
  • Scrapes and surface cuts
  • Uncomplicated diarrhea
  • Fleas and ticks
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Minor lameness
Raiser should:

Follow instructions in raiser's manual.

Notify Area Coordinator by phone or e-mail within 24 hours of onset.

Other Non-Life Threatening Problems:
  • Severe Lameness
  • Eye discharge/other eye problems
  • Severe diarrhea and/or vomitting
  • Fractures
  • Seizures lasting up to five minutes
  • Accidental breeding

Follow up with an E-mail to the AC with vet information.
 

Emergency (Life Threatening) Situations:
  • Severe trauma
  • Ingestion of antifreeze
  • Bloat
  • Shock reaction to vaccine
  • Unconsciousness or weakness / inability to stand

Raiser should:
DO NOT PANIC!  Determine if this is truly a life threatening situation.  If it is:
  • Call your veterinarian immediately so that they will be expecting you.
  • Call the Canine Development Center while you are with the veterinarian (see phone numbers above). 
  • After you return home, inform your AC that you had to visit a veterinarian for an emergency
